Over washing is one, using a harsh shampoo can strip your hair of its natural oils and the lovely colour pigments you’ve added to it, leaving it looking dull. Also, washing your hair with warm/hot water temperatures can contribute to colour fade. Sun exposure is another factor in why your colour fades, UV rays break down hair dye molecules, leading to premature fading. Using heated tools for styling your hair is another. Also, avoid chlorine in swimming pools, you could use a swimming hat or if on holiday, enjoy looking beautiful lounging on the sunbed next to the pool instead.

Using a sulphate-free shampoo such as the Colour Guarded Colour Protecting Shampoo will help as it's much gentler on dyed hair. Using cold water to rinse treatments and conditioners helps to seal the cuticle and lock in colour. Avoiding heat exposure will also help to keep your colour from fading, let your hair dry naturally and minimise the use of heated styling tools. However, if you prefer to use heated styling tools make sure you use heat protection. Before going out in the sun make sure you are wearing a hat or hair products with a UV filter/protectant in them.
